GUYS, if you’re engaged and planning your wedding (or shall I say your fiancé is planning your wedding) I’m sure you’ve already felt the shaft a bit. My fiancé and I recently went wedding band shopping and I was stunned to see the small selection of extremely affordable men’s wedding bands, and then when we asked to see the women’s bands, there were cases full of extremely expensive bands. But didn’t you already spend enough on the actual engagement ring? What gives?! This day has somehow become all about your bride to be, but I’m here to you let you know that it’s just as important that you feel good on your wedding day as she does. This is your day too you know!
Your biggest accessory on your wedding day, besides your handsome tux, is YOUR HAIR!
Women have diamonds and makeup to add flare to their look, but this is not the case with you. You need to be sure your hair is looking its best this day, and that you feel really good about it.
Here are some tips to prepare your hair for your wedding day, and some of my favorite male inspiration hair photos. Look through and if you find something you like, don’t be afraid to print the photo and bring it to your hairstylist. Seriously, there’s no shame in telling us what you think you’d like, and a picture is appreciated!
1.) How do you want your hair to look on your wedding day?
If you’ve had long hair for years and suddenly decide to shave your head the day before your wedding, that is not a good idea, and your bride may turn the other way once she sees you! Not really, but your wedding day isn’t a time to change your look drastically. Think classic. These pictures last forever, and you want to feel like the best version of yourself that day.
2.) Four to six months before your wedding, tell your stylist when your wedding day is.
Hair grows 1/4 inch a month, so this gives you a grace period to figure out exactly what length your hair will be. Your stylist can also create a game plan to ensure you have the perfect haircut on your special day.
3.) Schedule your final haircut 1-2 weeks before your wedding day in advance.
The last thing you want is to struggle to get an appointment before your wedding.
- If you wear your hair pretty short, you will want to get a haircut 1 week before your wedding.
- If you wear your hair medium to long (one inch+ around), you should get your hair cut 2 weeks before your wedding.
This will ensure your haircut finds its place, and is perfectly groomed without looking too done up on your wedding day.
4.) I know you probably hate hair product, but this is the day to wear it.
You will probably be nervous which may make you sweat. Or if you are getting married outside you have humidity and wind to consider. Whatever the case, hair product can ensure your style will stay in place. Wax and hairspray is my favorite combo. Ask your stylist which products work best for so you can be sure you have them on your wedding day.
5.) Wedding day hair doesn’t have to just be for your bride!
I recently styled a wedding for a couple and it was really awesome. After I finished the bride’s hair, I ran over to the men’s wing to style up the groom. There’s no harm in asking if this is a possibility.
Best of luck to you, and remember to take it all in and breathe
