Getting married, or should I say, having a wedding, is something most girls dream about their entire lives. Once the excitement and shock sets in, it’s time to get to work. This may be the biggest party you ever plan, and it is centered around you (and your groom I suppose) so you need to be on the ball when it comes to how you look on this very special day!
Besides finding THE dress, your wedding day hair style should be at the top of your “Important Stuff” list. On your wedding day you should feel like the most glamorous version of yourself. How many times in our lives are we able to put ourselves first and get pampered and feel beautiful? You deserve this, especially on your wedding day!
As a hairstylist and bride to be, I’m excited to share my insight and experience. I understand every angle and I hope I can help you a bit along the way.
Get prepared…
WHAT IS YOUR WEDDING HAIR BUDGET?
Figure out where this fits into your budget. If I had a dollar for every time the word budget is brought up in wedding planning, then I wouldn’t have to worry about my budget! All joking aside, wedding day hair is an expense and you need to figure out what you’re willing to put towards it.
FIND A HAIRSTYLIST
When it comes to your wedding day hair, first ask yourself if your current hairstylist would be a good candidate to style you. Be sure to check with them because many hairstylists actually don’t do wedding hair. If your stylist doesn’t, ask them if they have any referrals for you.
FIND AN INSPIRATIONAL PHOTO
Start looking at pictures in magazines or online to find wedding hair inspiration. Tear out the pages, print the pictures and save them in a folder. Think about what you like about each picture, and what you don’t like as this will be really helpful to your hairstylist. Keep in mind that if you feel most beautiful when your hair is down, then you probably don’t want to wear your hair in a fancy sleek updo, and vise versa. You still need to feel like you, so don’t ever feel that you SHOULD wear your hair a certain way.
WHICH IS YOUR BEST HAIR COLOR? Ask your Stylist.
Think about how you’d like your hair color and haircut to be for your wedding. If your hair is black and you want to be a blonde for your wedding, then you better saddle up and start this process many months prior to. Talk with your colorist, even if it’s a year in advance, and get their advice when it comes to your color. As for your haircut, if your hair isn’t as long as you’d hope it would be for the wedding, there are ways of using extensions to make this happen. Again, talk with your hairstylist and get their advice.
DO A TRIAL RUN
Do a trial run before the day of your wedding. This is something you want to do 2-4 weeks before the big day. The goal of this hair appointment is to figure out the exact way your hair will be styled. This way there is no stress, and on the day of your wedding you and your hairstylist will be on the same page so you can just relax while you get beautified.
MY TIPS FOR A SUCCESSFUL TRIAL RUN
- Bring pictures of hair styles you like
- Bring picture of your wedding dress
- Bring your veil or any hair brooches you may want to use
- Bring your earrings or necklace you are planning to wear
- Most importantly, ask your stylist for their advice
